The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari has described people calling for his arrest and detention in the United States, over an alleged bribe he took from internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi, as ‘bad belle Nigerians’.
He said: “If FBI wants to hear from somebody working with any Government, they will send letter to the Government of that Country. Am sure that letter too can be fabricated and circulated on social media soonest too. Best wishes for the people waiting to see us arrested, Hahahahaha.”
Hushpuppi, a 38-year-old man, real name Ramon Abbas,Hushpuppi loves to flaunt his wealth on Instagram with pictures of himself alongside luxury cars and jets after which he was arrested in Dubai last year after a lengthy FBI investigation. He was then transferred to the United States and has appeared in court in Chicago. Hushpuppi who pleaded guilty to the multi-million-dollar fraud charges filed by the U.S. government against him, implicating some of his associates.He said he used Kyari to arrest a fellow fraudster Chibuzor Vincent following a dispute presumably over how to share the $1.1 million loot received from a Qatari businessperson.
Abba Kyari has since denied the allegation but admitted to have arrested Kelly Vincent, one of Hushppupi’ ‘fraud’ associates at the request of the latter.
The Economic and Financial Crime Commision,(EFCC),on Thursday declined comments on whether it had launched an investigation into a bribery allegation levelled against a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, by Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.
The police have also refused to speak on the matter.
The EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, told a reliable newsportal that the anti-graft agency does not answer questions on whether it will investigate the case.
“We don’t answer that kind of question. Have you ever seen EFCC telling people what they want to do?” Mr Uwajuren told this newspaper.
Attempts to speak with the police spokesperson, Frank Mba, were also unsuccessful as he did not answer calls to his mobile phone on Thursday and did not reply to a text message sent to him on the topic.
