Nigerian champions Rivers Angels must avoid defeat when they face South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in their second group game at the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday.
Edwin Okon’s side lost 3-0 to Moroccan side ASFAR Club in their opening Group B game on Saturday at El-Salam Stadium, Cairo thanks to a hat-trick from Sanna Mssoudy.
ASFAR lead Group B on superior goals difference of +3 ahead of Sundowns, who have a +1 goals difference after their 1-0 win over Vihiga Queens (Kenya) in their opening group encounter on Saturday.
Angels are currently bottom of the log with a -3 deficit, while Vihiga are third on the log with a -1 goals difference.
Speaking ahead of the clash, Okon said his team had put the heavy defeat behind them and are hoping to win their next game against the South Africans.
“For now, all is well with the team, we’ve rested enough and also had our first official training on Sunday,” he stated.
“We will try to correct the lapses in our first game and ensure we give our fans back home a better performance on Tuesday.
