Dates are a delicious and nutritious fruit which originates from Iraq. Ever since this fruit was discovered thousands of years ago, it has grown to become one of the most sought after foods in the world, ranging from Africa, Europe Asia, America, etc.

The fruits are actually from the date palm tree; they are either referred to as dates or date fruits.In Nigeria, date fruits are one of the common fruits consumed by Nigerians. It is known as Dabino or Dabinu in Hausa. It is mostly grown and cultivated in the northern part of Nigeria. The scientific name for dates is Phoenix dactylifera.

Some of the potent properties and nutritional content contained in Date fruit include – vitamins and minerals, fiber, calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, zinc.

Although many people didn’t eat dabino, even many people didn’t know dabino but the fact is that dabino has many health benefits that you must not miss.

What Are The Health Benefits of Dates (Dabino)

Dates are regarded as one of the oldest fruits in the world, so numerous medical research has been done on the health benefits of dates. Hence, there are 14 health benefits of date fruits.

1. Cures Anaemia

Anemia is an imbalance that occurs as a result of deficiency of iron, and it is usually accompanied by a drop in the number of red blood cells in the human body. On the plus side, Dates contain a significant amount of iron, which makes them a great remedy for treating iron deficiency. When you consume dates regularly, it can help boost the amount of iron in your blood by a significant margin, and another thing about dates is that they are proven to be effective in improving the human strength and vitality.

The study discovered that oral administration of dates extract improved body weight and reduces water intake and caused hypoglycemia in those rats. That means that dates are perfect for anyone preventing or managing diabetes. The glycemic index of dates are also very low.

Dates have also been said to promote easy natural late-term labor in pregnant women.

Many scientific studies show that eating date fruits during the last few weeks of pregnancy can promote cervical dilation and reduce the need for induced labor, which also helps in reducing labor time.

The reason for this is because dates contain tannins and compounds that imitate the effects of oxytocin in the body. Tannins are oxytocin are chemical compounds that facilitates contraction during childbirth.
