Glasgow Rangers are planning to negotiate with Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr to have trio Leon Balogun, Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey report late to the team’s camp for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to a reliable newsportal, Rangers hope both players, who are likely to make the Eagles AFCON squad, can play against Celtic on January 2.

FIFA rules has it that, clubs should release their players on December 27 for the tournament, which kicks off January 9.

This will make the three players miss the Derby against their fiercest rivals.

It was gathered that Rangers are confident of successfully negotiating with the Nigeria Football Federation and Rohr for the players to report for duty after the Celtic clash.

According to the source, “Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard and sporting director Ross Wilson have an excellent working relationship with Rohr and the Nigerians.

“Top Premier League clubs in England will attempt to do likewise with African nations in a bid to keep their players a few days longer before they set off for Cameroon.”
