The Rivers State Government has made it known that no amount of character defamation by the All Progressives Congress (APC) would attract Governor Nyesom Wike nor distract him from delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. In his speech titled, ‘Rivers State Government sends alert on orchestrated media campaign,’ the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Pastor Paukinus Nsirim confirmed this on Thursday, 22nd July, in Port Harcourt.
He alleged the immediate past Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Dr Dakuku Peterside, of working behind the scenes to support to defame the Governor. He voiced that the APC had decided on the main opposition party to use selected media houses in the state to degrade the governor’s administration. The statement partly reads, “This orchestrated campaign spearheaded by a defeated and dumped governorship aspirant of the APC, Dr Dakuku Peterside is designed to portray the government of Governor Wike as one that is not meeting the developmental aspirations of Rivers people. However, the uncommon transformation of the 23 local government areas as witnessed during the last six years of projects commissioning and flag off shows clearly that Governor Wike is actually meeting the yearnings of the people.”
Further in his speech, he reiterated that the massive turnout of the people of Rivers state at various project sites and from diverse political divides to welcome the governor, showed that the people can no more be “swayed by cheap politically-induced blackmail.” The commissioner forged on to tell that the APC has been humbled by the revolution in governance traced in the state.
