Mrs Abiola Fashina, the Principal Ijo Mimo Oluwa High School, Akure has been sacked by the Ondo State Government over alleged misappropriation of part of funds meant for the payment of NECO examination in 2020 and alleged involvement in examination malpractices in the school.

Over the past years, Mrs Fashina along side the Chairman, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Pastor Ajibola Owolanke have been alleged on how examination invigilators were being induced in the school to all students pass their WAEC and NECO.

Mrs Fashina was also alleged of illegally collecting money from students ,a step that has now led to uproar in the school from parents. It was gathered that the principal who was deployed to the school late 2019 had mismanaged about a sum of #439,600 meant for the NECO registration of the SS3 students sitting for the 2020 examination.

This event has affected the social and academic activities in the school. The principal has been directed to report at the office of the Ondo State Teaching Commission, TESCOM till further notice.

Similarly the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs Lola Amuda has also ordered that the Executives of Parent Teacher Association, PTA in Ijo Mimo Oluwa High school be dissolved with immediate effect while interim Executive members be set up to take over.

Why should a school administrator be caught in the web of exam malpractice and funds mismanagement? What practices are you teaching to the young ones? As if that’s not enough, why should executive members of PTA support exam malpractices? When these children pass out with results they can’t defend, who do we blame it on? Lot of things are going wrong in the academic field ranging from jumping classes for children, exam malpractices, and parents paying huge sum of money for their wards to gain admission into the University. Who do we blame all these on? Is it the government, school administrators or parents? For me, government should deploy means of curbing these menace. Schools caught in any of these should be made to face the law squarely. It is high time we build a society with mentally sane individuals and it all begins from the tender age in every family.
