Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, released his position as the State Governor to a 14-year-old Atika Abubakar Yankaba for 20 minutes to mark the International Day of the Girl Child.

Atika, a junior secondary school 3 student, assumed office at 12pm and vacated the position to Governor Ganduje at 12:20pm.

Her short termed governance provided free sanitary pads to young girls in secondary school.

The International Day of the Girl Child is an global observance day declared by the United Nations. It started on October 11, 2012.
